Printable Millimeter Ruler

A millimeter ruler is a measuring tool marked in millimeters (mm), the smallest common unit in the metric system — one millimeter is 1/1000 of a meter, or 1/10 of a centimeter. Unlike a standard centimeter ruler, which only labels whole centimeters, a millimeter ruler marks every single millimeter along its length, giving you much finer resolution for close-up work.

Example: If you need to measure a screw that's 12.5mm long, a centimeter-only ruler forces you to estimate the "half" between the 1cm and 2cm marks. A millimeter ruler lets you count directly to the 12.5mm line, so you can read the length precisely instead of guessing.

Every ruler on this page marks each centimeter with a longer, numbered line (1, 2, 3…), and fills the space between each pair of centimeter marks with 9 shorter, unlabeled lines — one for each millimeter. To read a length:

1. Line up the zero mark

   Align the "0" mark with the start of the object you're measuring.

2. Find the nearest centimeter line

   Locate the whole centimeter line just before the object ends, and note the number (e.g., "3" for 3cm).

3. Count the millimeter lines

   Count the small millimeter lines from that centimeter mark to the edge of the object.

4. Add them together

   For example, 3 whole centimeters plus 4 extra millimeter lines equals 34mm (or 3.4cm).

Millimeters are the unit of choice whenever a centimeter is too coarse — small parts, wire gauges, screw sizing, jewelry, and detailed technical drawing all rely on 1mm resolution. This ruler labels every centimeter and marks every individual millimeter in between.
